How can users control the air conditioner anytime and anywhere, without relying on physical remotes?

About the Project

AC Control is a mobile application developed to provide efficient and intelligent remote control of air conditioning. Users can adjust the temperature of their environments in a practical and personalized way, ensuring greater comfort and energy efficiency.

This application aims to simplify air conditioning usage, eliminating the dependence on physical remotes and making the experience more seamless, convenient, and sustainable.

My Responsibilities

In the AC Control application, I was responsible for the following flows:

  • Right Icon Creating an account and logging in.
  • Right Icon Adding and configuring the remote control.
  • Right Icon Turning on, turning off, and adjusting the air conditioner's temperature.

Creating these flows required balancing simplicity and functionality, ensuring that even users with no technological experience could configure and control the air conditioner without frustration.

My main tasks included:

  • Right Icon User Research: Conducting interviews to identify challenges and expectations in remote air conditioning control.
  • Right Icon Competitor Analysis: Analyzing competitors and benchmarking to discover best practices and improvement opportunities.
  • Right Icon Persona: Creating a persona based on data collected during interviews.
  • Right Icon Information Architecture: Organizing the application's structure to ensure intuitive navigation.
  • Right Icon User Flows: Mapping user interactions to define efficient flows.
  • Right Icon Wireframes: Creating low, medium, and high-fidelity wireframes to translate complex concepts into design.
  • Right Icon Prototype: Developing an interactive prototype to test usability.
  • Right Icon Usability Testing: Conducting tests with users to identify improvements and optimize the experience.

The Process

The project started with a research phase, where I conducted four interviews to understand users' difficulties in remote air conditioning control. The main issues identified were:

  • Right Icon No remote control from a distance: All interviewees stated that they could not adjust the temperature while away from home.
  • Right Icon Difficulty quickly turning the device on/off: The current process required several unnecessary steps.
  • Right Icon Dependence on multiple physical remotes: For some interviewees, this made usage confusing.
  • Right Icon Lack of smart automation: There was no system that automatically adjusted the temperature.

Next, I conducted competitor analysis to identify essential features and competitive differentiators. Based on the data collected during the interviews, I defined a representative user persona, structured the information architecture, and designed user flows to ensure intuitive navigation.

In the design phase, I created low and medium-fidelity wireframes to test different approaches and iterate based on feedback. Later, I developed high-fidelity wireframes and created a UI Kit, ensuring visual consistency and application accessibility.

To validate the solution, I developed an interactive prototype and conducted usability tests with three users. The feedback collected enabled interface adjustments, making the experience even more intuitive and efficient.

The Solution

Based on the identified problems, I designed a mobile application with the following main features:

  • Right Icon Remote Control Integration: Easily add and configure a new device, including selecting the room, brand, and model of the air conditioner.
  • Right Icon Air Conditioner Management: Turn on, turn off, and adjust the temperature remotely, anytime and anywhere.
  • Right Icon Intuitive Interface: A simple and functional design, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free experience.

AC Control not only facilitates remote air conditioning control but also enhances comfort and helps efficiently manage energy consumption. With a simple and smooth experience, it removes technological barriers and puts users in total control of their environment.
